Real. Raw. Relatable.

I’m Lyz, I’m a Physiotherapist with a Clinical Masters in Women’s and Pelvic Health and fortunate to also to be a mum of two.

Healthcare professionals so often get caught up in our day-to-day work, research and seminars. We don’t have the time to take stock and share our information with you, the public. I now feel in a position to share the knowledge I’ve gained. So we can all be empowered with the Real, Raw and Relatable information, research, personal experiences and patient stories that are usually only shared within the medical community

Until now I’ve been so busy ensuring I have the ‘I’m keeping it all together’ performance perfected that I’ve missed something so powerful that I can’t learn from a medical text book. And that is that strength can be gained when vulnerabilities and imperfections are shown. I’ve realised that if I am going truly empower women, I need to create space for women to share their weaknesses, and this has to start with mine.

Over the last 10 years, I have watched the Women’s Health and wellness industry boom. During that time, I’ve been hitting the books and hiding behind clinic room doors helping thousands of women on their health journey. I’ve also been training my team, speaking at conferences, completing my research and been raising my own family.

Access to quality information for all women regarding their health is very important to me. However, there’s a problem that has emerged in our current culture of wellness and Dr Google. While it is great that we are all taking more accountability for our health, it has enabled access to medical information that either has no validated evidence or clinical relevance.

 MY BACKGROUND

Background_Lyz.jpg

I come from a big family where fUnds were often tight but one thing that was drummed into us was that Health is an investment not an expense.

Women’s Health is my lifework and passion. I started working in the health and fitness industry at 18 years of age, paying my way through university working as a fitness instructor. Since graduating in 2004 I have worked in both the Private and Public Health Care Sectors within Australia and the UK as a Physiotherapist.

In 2012 I identified a lack of follow up care in the public health system in the area of Women’s Health. So, I founded a clinic in Sydney called Women in Focus Physiotherapy + Health that caters for the unique needs of the female body. It has been a huge success, with over 400 women through our doors each week.

I’ve worked as a Senior Physiotherapist at Sydney Royal Hospital for Women for 10 years alongside Obstetricians, Gynaecologists, and Midwives which has been pivotal in my understanding of the medical team, the health system and women’s health needs.

I have recently had my own clinical research  published investigating  the long-term impacts of birth trauma on a woman’s physical, mental, sexual and emotional health.
